Mary Margaret Gallaher, daughter of Miriam & Patrick Gallaher, is the 2011 recipient of the $1,000 scholarship awarded each year by Knights of Columbus Council 6419 to a Catholic senior graduating from one of the Hot Springs area schools.
Mary was home schooled but finished her studies with a 4.0 Grade Point Average. Mary has taken several college math course at National Park Community College to supplement her knowledge. Mary also assisted her mother in the production of “Learn Spanish with Grace” which is used to teach children Spanish with a Catholic orientation.
Mary is a member of Saint Mary of the Springs Catholic Church. Mary has been a CCD teacher at Saint Mary’s for four years and has severed as a lector at Mass for several years. Mary is an avid runner having completed in a number 5K and half marathon’s in Memphis and New Orleans.
Mary has held several part time jobs during her high school years and even was tutor for a younger student. Mary is also an accomplished Irish dancer performing at Nursing homes, schools and churches. She also has been a volunteer at the Garland county library.
Mary plans to attend Belmont Abby College in Belmont, North Carolina. Mary has not yet decided upon a major.
