Charity Committee Activities
The Charity Outreach committee was established in the fall of 2002. Some of the current members felt a need to raise money and help those locally who were in distress. The committee agreed to assist anyone of any faith if they were trying to help themselves.
The primary source of income was the spring rummage sale normally held in April. In the spring of 2003 the charity committee held its first sale in April. The charity committee quickly saw the need to have more space for items collected for the rummage sale. A loan was obtained in the fall of 2004 and a 2,400 square foot build was constructed for storage of the larger items. This building was named after Jim Reiter chairman of the charity committee who spearheaded the effort to construct the building.
In the fall of 2004 a fall sales was added to the one in the spring. In the summer of 2005 a furniture only sales was held to reduce the amount of furniture. This sale has continued as donations have packed the building and a summer sale is needed to allow space for more donations.
One of the first organization offered help was the Hot Springs Housing Authority (H.S.H.A.). Other organizations receiving regular cash include Jackson House, Charitable Christian Medical Clinic, Christopher House as well as purchases of diapers and incidentals for residents of the Hot Springs Housing Authority with a need.
For the years 2003 thru 2008, donations have been made to the following organizations:
- Jackson House (Crisis Center)
